The wind farm Dahlenburg is a 36 MW wind farm (18 × Vestas V80) located approx. 60 km southeast of Hamburg, which was developed from Elektrizitätswerk Dahlenburg AG and is operated together with WPD AG, Bremen. This project was developed within a tight schedule: making the decision to follow this project in Mai 2001, the wind farm was starting production end of 2002. Nevertheless it was possible to integrate a comprehensive measurement campaign on base of mast and SODAR measurements in the project development (a site specific measurement campaign is quite unusual in Germany). By use of SODAR wind profile measurements and a gradient correlation method, it was possible to detect that the wind speed in hub height was much higher than expected, and by means of the correlation with high quality long term data it was possible to come to a reliable long term assessment. Now, after one year of operation, it turns out that these assumptions were correct, so that the energy yield data fully meet the expectations.
