We presented the design and implementation of a filter object mechanism for CORBA-based distributed object systems based on an existing model of a first-class filter object for C++. A filter object can be plugged during runtime to transparently intercept message invocations on a CORBA server object. A distributed filter object is a full-fledged CORBA object. Filterable servers are developed based on the need-to-filter principle.
