Wind turbines are increasingly erected at inland sites, as the coastal areas are already used for wind energy and the offshore projects are still under development for the next years. Furthermore, due to their higher towers, today's serial production turbines easily reach lower clouds at winter time even close to the sea coasts and therefore will meet icing conditions more often.
