By December 31st, 1996, the assessment of wind energy in Germany led to a number of 4326 installed turbines with a rated power of 1546.4 MW. 806 turbines (each having a rated power of 5 or more kW) with a total of 427.641 MW rated power were installed in 1996. Germany is placed now first in the world of the wind energy using countries. Only at the interior states of Germany 45.4 p.c. of the wind turbines with 44.6 p.c. of the rated power were installed in 1996. The past year is the first year with a decrease of the annually installed wind power in Germany. Only 85.2 p.c. of the installed power of 1995 have been erected in 1996.
